Paris-based Maltese musicians return to their roots

A trio of Maltese Paris-based musicians will be returning to their roots and playing in their native country next month.

Jazz guitarist and percussionist Sandro Zerafa will be joining forces with Oliver Degabriele and Alison Galea, from the band Beangrowers, for two concerts at Juuls Café, in St Julians on August 1 and 15.

The young artistes, who share a love for music and live at the Belleville quarter in Paris, will be performing tunes by various artistes, including Brazilian singers Djavan, Antonio Carlos Jobin, Paulinho da Viola and Dorival Caymmi.

Mr Zerafa's love for Brazilian music kicked off when he started playing the guitar. Moving to Paris, he collaborated with several Brazilian singers and recorded a CD with the Brazilian group Botafogo. This group will soon come to Malta to play with singer Ze Renato as part of a series of jazz events. His White Russian Quartet will also be playing next month.

Mr Degabriele, who has toured Europe with folk group Etnika, will also be playing in Malta next month as part of the Jazz Fringe! programme.
