Blogs can be viewed either by the general public or select groups of people, such as friends.

Blogging happens when somebody (the blogger) uploads information to the blog. They can easily be created without any special technical knowledge.

Safe and private blog systems can be set up on school computers to be used in class.

Before you set up your own blog the issue of internet safety is just as important as it is for chat lines. Blogs can be available to the public. Keep personal information about yourself, your family and friends out of it. You don't want the wrong people getting hold of it and making use of it or trying to contact you.

Never use blogs to bully or frighten other children, or pass on anything horrible or untrue about anyone. And be careful how much you believe about what you read! Although discussing the blogs you read with your family and friends can make them even more fun.

When creating a blog think how to stay safe. Look for and select a blog website that other people of your age are using, so you can contact people with similar interests.

Check also that it has good support. There should be an FAQ section and an e-mail address that can you can use to mail any problems to.

You should find out if there are any costs involved in setting up your blog and some where that you can hide you login details, so others cannot access your membership information or user profile. Then hide your blog from search engines - most blog sites describe ways to do this. Finally, protect your blog with a password to make sure no one else can enter information on your blog.
