Man confesses to punching wife in the face

A 38-year-old man was yesterday given a three-month jail term suspended for a year after he admitted to punching his wife in the face and threatening her with a bread knife on Saturday.

The man pleaded guilty to slightly injuring his wife when he punched her, threatening her with the knife and causing her to fear him.

After hearing the guilty plea, Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna handed down a suspended jail term and ordered the man not to approach or molest his wife and her family for a year against a Lm100 fine in default.

The magistrate also issued a protection order for the wife and her family.

Names are not being published to protect the identity of the wife.

Police Inspector Paul Bond prosecuted.

Lawyer Chris Cardona was defence counsel.

Lawyers Owen Bonnici and Deborah Delceppo represented the wife.
