Two migrants died yesterday when the craft they were travelling in collided with a fishing boat 80 miles off the Libyan coast, the Italian coastguard said. The crew of the Italian fishing boat rescued the 23 other migrants from the vessel and recovered the two bodies.

Many migrants try to cross the Mediterranean from Libya to Italy, often in poorly equipped boats, to flee poverty or war and find work in the European Union.
