A single goal by Kim Kallstrom earned Lyon victory over Bolton Wanderers in the Peace Cup final yesterday, with the French side pocketing a $2 million prize.
The result was a vindication of sorts for Lyon, who had reached the final in each of the two previous editions of the Peace Cup only to make the long flight home as the losing side.
Lyon's goal came late in the second half thanks to excellent footwork from Ben Arfa, who was able to fend off three Bolton defenders and pass back to Kalstrom.
The Swedish midfielder's shot bounced off the Bolton keeper's hands into the back of the net.
"After losing two finals it was very good to see us finally win. Our team had a very good performance from beginning to end," said Lyon coach Alain Perrin.
