The second edition of Streets Alive, a Valletta Alive Foundation/Bank of Valletta initiative, kicked off yesterday with an arts exhibition at St George's Square, a performance by the Versatile Brass Band and theatre by the group Faux.

The programme, which runs until August 24, offers entertainment and shopping in Valletta every Friday with events starting at 7 p.m.

The events, which will revolve around various themes, are supported by the Ministry for Tourism and Culture, the Malta Tourism Authority and Allied Newspapers.

The second Friday, themed Valletta Kulinarja, will consist of a food fair and an exhibition of local and international cuisine al fresco at the Upper Barrakka Gardens.

Music will be provided by Mark Spiteri Lucas Band. The evening will also include a Caravaggio Banquet at Auberge D'Italie in Merchants Street.

The third Friday theme is Valletta Storika, the fourth will highlight the Elegance of Valletta, the fifth Valletta Romantica and the last one will consist of activities where the public will be able to participate.

The highlight will be Bla Kondixin - a satirical performance by the group Ideas Alive at the opera house ruins.
