A Somali illegal immigrant was yesterday charged with assaulting and seriously injuring a co-national, also an immigrant, at the Marsa open centre on Wednesday night.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi heard Abdel Rizak Hussein plead not guilty to assaulting and injuring Fousi Mouse Abdi, breaching the peace and not being in a state to looking after himself because he was drunk.

Mr Hussein was denied bail.

Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted.

Lawyer Anthony Cutajar was defence counsel.
