This year it was their turn again and when you consider the past averages the mean of 2.18 was their second best. In the top flight the scoring total of 931 is 13 less than the previous campaign.
From the remaining divisions, the Championship and League One showed an increase and the total score aggregate of 5,128 is 64 goals better off than the 2005/06 season.
Clubs in the Premiership which recorded an increase on their previous total were Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Blackburn, Portsmouth and Aston Villa.
The biggest increase is that of Everton with 18 more nettings on the previous season.
The other sides to go into a plus of double figures were Manchester United and Aston Villa.
The total of 5,128 goals by the end of season 2006-07 reads:
Premiership: 931 - an average of 2.45 goals per match (previous season: 944 - average 2.48).
The Championship: 1,439 - an average of 2.61 goals per game (previous season: 1,341 - average 2.43).
League One: 1,386 - an average of 2.51 goals per match (previous season: 1,384 - average 2.51).
League Two: 1,372 - an average of 2.48 goals per game (previous season: 1,392 - average 2.52).
