My pet

The owner of our winning pets for July is Maria Zammit, 11, of Zabbar.

I have two dogs which I love very, very much. They are both lovely, cute and naughty. Banjie loves to eat and sleep but Rex runs about and plays with me. We found Rex and Banjie running about at Marsaxlokk with another dog, which our cousin adopted.

They were very tiny and dirty. They were full of fleas and Banjie was very sick. Dad put them in our car and left me and mum at the market in Marsaxlokk. He and my brother phoned our uncle to come for the other dog. Immediately our uncle arrived. We phoned a friend about them and found out that there was a vet in Zurrieq, who works on a Sunday.

He was very helpful and Banjie was OK after about three days. We gave them a wash and gave them food and let them sleep. Now they are our greatest friends. I can't live without them. They bark when I am a few metres away from home. They are my world!

I have a lovely cat. Her name is Delphi. Her colours are black, brown and white. She likes to eat fish and cheese. Delphi drinks water and milk. My cat likes to sleep on the sofa or on my bed. She likes to watch TV on the sofa. She also likes to play with me, with a ball. I love Delphi very much. Delphi is very important to me.

My cat is Smokey. She is a cross between a Persian and a stray cat. We got her when she was just a one-month-old kitten. She is a very cute cat and always answers me with a nice miaow when I call her. She is so beautiful that she won second prize in the show for domestic cats, a year ago.

I can never stop looking at her bushy tail. I brush her every morning and she loves it so much that she does not move. She can even recognise the brush and comes to me when she sees it.
