Former Led Zeppelin frontman and quintessential rock icon Robert Plant will be performing at the Valletta Waterfront tonight.

Robert Plant and his band, The Strange Sensation arrived yesterday to complete the three-day Blues and Wine Festival at the Waterfront.

The 58-year-old singer stopped to give autographs to his fans, though his security team was evidently upset at the sight of The Times photographer.

The singer is known for his mystical lyrics and wide vocal range, famously showcased in Led Zeppelin songs like Communication Breakdown and Dazed And Confused.

He went on to influence many of his contemporaries like Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Queen's Freddie Mercury.

After the break-up of Led Zeppelin in 1980, following the sudden death of drummer John Bonham, Robert Plant pursued a successful solo career beginning with his first solo album, Pictures At Eleven, in 1982.

In recent years, he might have stepped down a gear but 2005's album Mighty Rearranger was critically acclaimed and was even nominated for Grammy awards.

This evening's setlist is expected to feature songs mainly from his own repertoire, fused in with some Led Zeppelin classics.
