The Malta Transport Authority (ADT) said yesterday that since the introduction of the controlled vehicular access (CVA) system for Valletta in May and after extensive consultation with the Union Haddiema Maghqudin, car park attendants have been relocated outside the CVA charging zone.
Therefore, no person is allowed to work as an attendant within the confines of the charging zone.
The ADT said it had received reports that despite the introduction of the pay-as-you-go scheme, "unlicensed car park attendants" were still asking people for money. "The introduction of the CVA system entailed the relocation of the licensed car park attendants that used to work in Valletta.
"Over the past two weeks, two unlicensed car park attendants were caught red-handed asking for gratuities within the confines of the zone and will be taken to court over the coming weeks," the ADT said.
It urged the public visiting Valletta to report any person carrying out parking attendant duties on freephone 8007 2393. Reports will be dealt with in strict confidence.
