Victoria, today, celebrates the feast of St George.
At 8 a.m., Bishop Mario Grech, accompanied by the basilica Chapter and clergy, leads a procession from the Episcopal palace in Republic Street, to the basilica church.
The President, Dr Eddie Fenech Adami, arrives at 8.20. Pontifical, concelebrated Mass will be led by Bishop Grech at 8.30. A liturgical assembly, led by the President, will follow. Professor Joseph Vella's Mass in D in honour of St George Princeps Martyrium (1976) for orchestra, soloists and choir will be performed. Soprano Miriam Cauchi, tenor Antonio Interisano and baritone Carlos de Miranda will participate.
Marches by the St George and Stella Maris bands at the city centre at 11.
Pontifical concelebrated Mass will be led by former bishop Mgr Nikol Cauchi, accompanied by the basilica Chapter and clergy, at 6 p.m.
The procession, led by Bishop Grech, leaves at 7 p.m. The La Stella Band will take part.
At 7.45, the Nicolo Isouard and Mnarja bands will perform on St George's Square and Independence Square, respectively.
The procession ends at 10 with the antiphon and a sacramental blessing at 10.30. Festivities end with marches by the La Stella Band on St George's Square at 11.
Ta' Hamet church celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel tomorrow.
The church rector Mgr Carmelo Hili will say Mass at 6 a.m. The church will be open for solemn adoration from 5.30 to 7.30 p.m. Bishop Mario Grech then leads a concelebrated Mass. A pilgrimage outside church, with the statue of Our Lady, and a sacramental blessing, will then follow.
The centenary of the death of Karolina Cauchi, the foundress of Dominican Sisters and only daughter of Notary Nicolò Cauchi, will be commemorated on Tuesday. Bishop Mario Grech leads a solemn, concelebrated Mass at the church dedicated to Our Lady of Pompey at 5 p.m. The Gaulitanus Choir, led by Mro Colin Attard, will also take part. Bishop Grech will bless a statue of the foundress, by Gianni Bonnici, which has been placed at the sisters' convent.
Carol Forster, a fully trained facilitator from Davis Dyslexia Association (UK), will hold a two-hour seminar on new methods to help people suffering with dyslexia, at the University Gozo Centre, Mgarr Road, Xewkija, on Friday at 7 p.m. The fee is Lm3 per person. A barbeque, organised by The Friends of ATC, Ghajnsielem, will be held at Ghajnsielem Square on Saturday at 7.30 p.m. Proceeds will go to people with special needs. Wine and water is free of charge. There will also be raffles and dancing with John Muscat.
