The Chamber of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises - GRTU said yesterday the government was incapable of solving the parking problem vis-à-vis the Valletta market hawkers.

It said the government had given hawkers Lm18,000 worth of free parking in Valletta after the introduction of controlled vehicle access to the capital.

Since the government had still not allocated a parking space for hawkers on the outskirts of Valletta, which it had promised it would do by yesterday, parking spaces in St George's Square and other central areas were being taken up by hawkers.

Calling the situation ridiculous, the GRTU said the decision was affecting people who need to drive into and park in Valletta.
