Aviva, the UK's largest insurer, said it had appointed Alain Dromer as head of its Morley fund management arm and had given him a mandate to forge it into a global asset management business.
Mr Dromer, who will join Aviva's group executive committee, was formerly the global head of investment businesses at HSBC.
He takes up his post at Morley, which had £165 billion under management at the end of March, on September 3. "Alain's appointment signals a new approach to asset management at Aviva. It is a core part of our business and I have a clear ambition to harness the power and potential of the group's asset management operations around the world," Aviva chief executive officer Andrew Moss said in a statement.
Mr Morley has been without a CEO since it parted company with former chief Keith Jones, who left at the end of 2006.
