The police pointed out yesterday that it was in May and not March this year that they had been informed by the Malta Maritime Authority about irregularities in nautical licences.

The police referred to evidence in court by the investigating officer in the case of MMA employees John Farrugia and Ivan Muscat who are pleading not guilty to involvement in organised crime, accepting bribes and forging documents on and before June.

In his testimony, the officer said that in March an MMA official reported there were irregularities in the issue of nautical licences. In fact, the report was filed in May, the police said adding that this will be corrected in court at the next sitting.
