A 27-year-old man has been charged with trying to seriously injure his partner in their apartment on Wednesday evening.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard David Falzon, of Rabat, plead not guilty to charges of assaulting the woman, trying to seriously injure her, breaching the peace and violating the conditions of a previous release.

Police Inspector Nezren Grixti told the magistrate that Mr Falzon had already been put on probation for assaulting his partner.

On hearing this Magistrate Scerri Herrera denied Mr Falzon's request for bail until the victim testified. The magistrate also recommended that the victim testified in the first sitting.

Lawyer Chris Cardona was defence counsel.
