The people of Malta deserve more respect from the Leader of the Opposition. He should not write fairy tales and expect the people to believe him.

In a recent piece, Preset Agendas, Alfred Sant had the cheek to write that "No one can say that Labour retaliated in kind". During the 22 months of Labour government hundreds of transfers were made in so many places: health, education services, the police force, etc.

Dr Sant continues his fairy tale: "Promotions, appointments and recruitment in the public service are manipulated to benefit supporters, even when abler people are available".

It seems our Opposition Leader is blessed with a very short memory. He conveniently forgets that under his Premiership, Angela Callus was removed from office as Director of Equal Status of Women "without a valid reason".

On April 29, 2003, the Employment Commission found Prime Minister Sant guilty of political discrimination against her.

According to the findings "the minister would be happier" to work with the newly appointed director as they were close political collaborators. A clear and proven case of favouritism and clientelism at best!

By the way, you do not have to believe me, or the hundreds affected, just ask Wenzu Mintoff, a prominent official of the MLP, who wrote the following in a supplement in The Malta Independent in September 1998: "Dr Sant's commitment not to hand out jobs and promotions for the boys lasted only until his government became a caretaker".
