A Libyan residing at Ta' Kandja detention centre was yesterday remanded in custody at Corradino Correctional Facility after he was charged with attempting to rape a male immigrant. Ali Mohammed Hassan, 37, was arraigned by Inspector Edel Mary Camilleri, who also accused him of inflicting slight injuries on an immigrant. The name of the victim is not being published by court order.
Mr Hassan was further accused of violent indecent assault, insulting the police, relapsing and committing a crime during the operative period of a suspended sentence. Inspector Camilleri told the court the victim was found unconscious at the Ta' Kandja detention centre on Sunday.
When she spoke to him later he told her the accused had made several passes at him and tried to abuse him sexually on several occasions. But he had never reported this as he used to be threatened and was afraid of the accused.
The officer said the victim reported that the accused used to make his attempts at night or at times when there was no one around.
Lawyer Renzo Porsella Flores was defence counsel.
