Six young gymnasts from the Gymstars Club have just taken part in the Framesvod Open in Deventer, Holland.
The Maltese did not figure among the favourites prior to the competition but surprised those present with a series of excellent routines to win various honours at both individual and team level.
In a statement, the club said credit goes to the athletes, coaches and choreographers.
In the team competition, Kirsty Caruana, Adreana Zammit and Martina Galea collected 128.85 points to finish first ahead of six other teams.
In another category, Mia Vickery, Tara Dalli and Nicole Pace secured the gold medal with 151.1 points.
In individual events, Caruana and Zammit shared second place overall with 43.9 points each. Caruana also had two third places on vault and bars and Zammit was a bronze medal winner on the beam.
Galea was outstanding on the beam, gaining the gold medal.
On her part, Vickery managed a creditable second overall and was also awarded a silver medal following her exercises on vault and beam.
International competition
For the fourth consecutive year, Gymstars will be holding an international competition, now a regular fixture in the club's calendar.
This year, the foreign clubs taking part will come from England and Wales. There will also be other local clubs and a token representative side from Sweden.
The competition is being held on July 21 and 22.
Meanwhile, the club has just honoured the Maltese gymnasts who took part in GSSE in Monaco last month, particularly Philip Caruana Turner.
He made history for Maltese gymnastics after winning a bronze medal.
