Work on a church dedicated to the Divine Mercy and a parish centre at San Pawl tat-Targa in Naxxar is set to continue in the coming days with the appointment of a priest whose main task will be to oversee the completion of the project.

Construction work on the church and centre was concluded in 2003 and the shell was blessed. However, the work, which had been the responsibility of the parish's former parish priest Fr Salvinu Micallef, stopped as soon as Fr Micallef was moved to Kalkara four years ago.

Naxxar deputy parish priest Fr Mattew Magri said, when contacted yesterday, that the priest who will be working on the project had already been nominated by the Archbishop.

The new priest will oversee the finishing and furnishing of the new church and centre, which will also be used for the teaching of Christian doctrine.
