A 21-year-old man was yesterday given a two-year jail term suspended for four years when he admitted to stealing from his former girlfriend and damaging her property.

Keith Vassallo, of Siggiewi, pleaded guilty to stealing the woman's mobile phone and other items from her work place, setting fire to her car and damaging several items at her house over the past month.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna imposed a suspended jail term, put the accused under a supervision order for two years and ordered him not to approach the woman against a Lm100 fine in default.

Police Inspectors Mario Tonna and Walter Spiteri prosecuted.

Lawyers Kris Busietta and Jason Azzopardi were defence counsel.
