The Nationalist Party yesterday condemned what it termed as racist comments made by Labour MP Joe Sammut in speeches inside and outside Parliament.

Dr Sammut said in Parliament last week that parts of Marsa had become no-go areas for the Maltese and migrants were working illegally without paying tax. He also proposed a segregated bus service from Birzebbuga for migrants.

The PN said Labour leader Alfred Sant and the Labour Party should take steps against Dr Sammut who showed a lack of respect and tolerance on the basis of race. This was not acceptable, the PN insisted.

Labour general secretary Jason Micallef last week distanced the party from the MP's comments.
