The world is grateful to Médecins sans Frontières (doctors without borders) who honour their obligation as doctors and save lives. But now we also have their mirror image, Médecins avec Frontières (doctors with frontiers) established in Malta.

The Economist quotes a Maltese medical doctor, who apparently urged that new immigrant arrivals ought to be shipped "to the edge of our territorial waters and told 'We're sorry, but this is where our responsibility stops'." Hippocrates would shudder. The Hippocratic oath says "I promise never to do harm to anyone". Perhaps Médecins avec Frontières follow the hypocritical oath?
