I concur with George Preca (The Sunday Times, June 24) lamenting about a characteristic stone sculpture of the Baptism of Christ on top of Victoria Gate.

I have observed this statue since childhood and a relative used to tell me that while the Victoria Gate was built well after the construction and interior decoration of St John's Co-Cathedral, it may be that this statue was a non-professional replica of the marble masterpiece The Baptism of Christ in the co-cathedral behind the main altar.
