Occupational health and safety course

The Foundation for Human Resources Development (FHRD) in partnership with the Institute of Health & Safety (IHS) is holding a course on "Effective health and safety committees" on July 16, between 9 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. at the foundation's premises at 1, Triq  il-Kampanella, San Gwann.

The course will talk about health and safety committees, which contribute immensely to health and safety at the workplace, also helping employers to demonstrate that they are complying with their legal obligations to consult with employees on health and safety related matters.

The course is designed to help them function more effectively in a spirit of co-operation for the benefit of both employers and employees.

The objective of the course is that participants should be able to state the terms of reference of a health and safety committee, recognise the opportunities that a safety committee offers for promotion of health and safety at the workplace, understand how to ensure that the committee is  representative of the workplace as a whole, understand administrative issues associated with health and safety committees, and to recognise the importance of communication to and from the health and safety committee.

The course is designed for employers, managers and supervisors, trade union representatives, and anyone who might sit on a health and safety committee or who is interested in forming one.

Mr Chris Hudson, MA, BA(Hons), CFIOSH, AIEMA, Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, will conduct the course.

For more information, visit www.fhrd.org, e-mail info@ihs.com.mt or phone the Institute of Health and Safety on 2131-1966.
