Obituary

FARRUGIA. On July 3, at her residence in Zebbug, CARMENA, aged 87, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Luckie and her husband Nazju Abela, Joseph and his wife Jane, Tessie, Lourdes, Salvu and his wife Carmen, Philip and his wife Antoinette, Madlene and her husband Werner Schmiot, Maria and her husband Carmelo Borg, nephews, nieces and grandchildren, her sister Pawla Cachia, Dolor, widow of Nazzareno, her in-laws, relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves her residence today at 2 p.m. for St Philip's parish church, Zebbug, where Mass praesente cadavere will be held at 2.30 p.m. followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery in the family grave. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret that they are unable to receive visitors at home.

GOODRIDGE. On July 2, in Tarbes, South France, MARTIN passed away. Beloved husband of Catherine née Borda, father of John, Paul and Michael, father-in-law of Amanda and Sue, and grandfather of Emily, Anna, Esme and Kitty. His sisters-in-law, Christine, wife of Bryan Gera and Patricia, wife of Walter Camilleri. A man of great strength and courage who leaves behind a united family full of love and happy memories. Donations if desired are to be made to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi. May he rest in the peace of the Lord.

MALLIA. Suddenly on June 30, in Rome, ANNA MARIA, passed away. She leaves to mourn her loss her brother Roberto and his wife Clara, her sister Rosa Maria, other relatives and her numerous friends in Malta and Rome. A Mass for the repose of her soul will be said today at 7 p.m. at the Ursuline Sisters Chapel, Sliema.

MIFSUD. On June 28, CARMENA née Gatt, aged 93, of Senglea, widow of Joseph Mifsud, passed away peacefully in her sleep, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her great loss her beloved sons and daughters, her much loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
The family is most grateful to all the staff for the exceptional, tender, loving care diligently bestowed on our mother throughout her stay at the admission ward in St Vincent De Paul.

VASSALLO. On July 3, at St Luke's Hospital, NAZZARENO, aged 54, went to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church and surrounded by his beloved wife Rita and his children Roberta and Ryan. He leaves to mourn his beloved parents Bartolomeo and Karmena, his brothers, sisters and their respective spouses, nieces and nephews, his in-laws Ganna and Bertu, and all his wife's family, relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 8 a.m. for Naxxar parish church, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.45 a.m., followed by interment at the Mosta cemetery. Lord grant him eternal rest.

MICALLEF - JANE, née Ghigo. Treasured memories of a beloved wife, mother and sister on the 16th anniversary of her demise. Today's 6 p.m. Mass at St Monica chapel, Augustinian Sisters, Mosta, will be offered for the repose of her soul and of her son Dr Michael Micallef, MD. Lord, grant them eternal rest.

MICALLEF - Dr MICHAEL MICALLEF, MD. With loving memories from his father Joseph and brothers Noel and Pierre. O Lord, grant him eternal rest. "Missing you so much has left our home so empty. You have done much good to us and others. God knows all this. Assured of His reward in heaven, our memory of you remains, compelling us to believe that we shall meet again."

SERGE. Cherished memories of my dear mother CONNIE on the first anniversary of her death. Always in my thoughts and prayers. Simon, May the Lord grant her eternal rest.

ZAMMIT - FRANCOIS. So suddenly passed away five years ago. Very sadly missed and lovingly remembered. Therese, Mireille, Ervis, Veronique, Alan and Etienne.

English Language Course

The British Legion will run English language courses during the summer in Valletta and Victoria for students going into Form 1 as well as for those who were not successful.

Courses are also being organised for students of other ages, for primary students of years one to six as well as for secondary school students from Form 1 up to Matsec O level.

Students will be working on comprehension, grammar, idioms, vocabulary and other aspects of language. At the end of the course, they will be given certificates and books.

American Independence

A buffet lunch will celebrate the 231st anniversary of the American Independence at the Sea Bank Hotel in Mellieha on Sunday at 12.30 p.m.

BBQ In Aid Of Missions

A buffet barbecue to assist the Augustinian missionaries in their work with underprivileged children in Brazil will be held on Saturday at the Riviera Resort Hotel and Spa in Marfa Bay at 7.30 p.m.

Tickets cost Lm6.50 for adults and Lm3.50 for children aged between five and 12. They can be obtained by calling 9989 7462, 9989 9090 or 7988 1006 or by sending an e-mail to magro.ivan@gmail.com.

Bank Employees' Donation

A group of 16 Bank of Valletta employees marked celebrated the 30th anniversary of their employment with the bank by making a donation to Dar tal-Providenza.

The employees met informally at a dinner to celebrate this milestone in their banking career.

The money was presented to Mgr Laurence Gatt, director of Dar tal-Providenza, by Alfred Spiteri and Manuel Mallia on behalf of all their colleagues.

Summer School

A summer school for children aged between three and 14, starts on July 16 on the initiative of the Swieqi local council. Interested parents can call on 2137 3939 for more information. Applications are available from the local council offices. Non-residents are welcome.

Youth Evening

The youth section of the L'Isle Adam band club in Rabat will hold an event entitled Il-Festa ta' Hal-Ferrahlu on July 13 from 8.30 p.m. at the club's premises.

The price is Lm3 and Lm1 for children aged 10 or younger and will include Maltese food, wine and dessert. Tickets can be bought from the club's bar or from the lottery office.

Adoration

There will be solemn adoration of the Blessed Eucharist followed by benediction and Holy Mass at the Sanctuary of St Paul Shipwrecked, in St Paul's Bay, today and every Thursday at 6 p.m.

Housing Project In Ethiopia

Living Waters, a Catholic missions-oriented subgroup of the Cenacolo Community, held a dinner at the San Anton Palace Gardens to raise funds for the projects it has carried out in Ethiopia.

The projects include the construction of 55 houses to replace ramshackle huts.

The dinner raised about Lm3,000, which will be added to the Housing Project Fund which at some point must reach Lm120,000. Twelve of the 55 houses have already been built and are providing shelter for members of this community.

Coffee On The Beach

Nestlé Malta will be hosting a series of Nescafé Frappé events on selected beaches and lidos throughout the summer.

The locations will include the Tanti Ice Cream Kiosk at Mellieha Bay next Saturday and Sunday; Paradise Bay Lido, Cirkewwa, on July 14; Splash and Fun Water Park, Bahar ic-Caghaq on July 15; Illusions, Pretty Bay, July 22 and Munchies Beach Café, Golden Bay on July 29.
