Valletta Fund Services has held a seminar in Geneve, Switzerland, that promoted Malta as an ideal alternative EU jurisdiction for the setting up of investment services.
The seminar, which was coordinated through Bank of Valletta's Representative Office in Milan, was addressed by Joseph V. Bannister, chairman of the MFSA, Tonio Depasquale, CEO of Bank of Valletta, Sarah Aquilina, manager, Deloitte and Touche, Malta, Frank Suess, CEO of BFI Consulting AG and director SwissFund SICAV plc and Kenneth Farrugia, general manager of Valletta Fund Services, among others.
Mr Depasquale said the fund administration business had the potential for being a fast growing sector in Malta. "Our evaluation is based on a value proposition that has regulatory responsiveness, cost-effectiveness and speed of service as its main drivers. And this is an area where, through Valletta Fund Management, we already have a good track record of providing services to professional investment funds, albeit on a modest scale," said Mr Depasquale.
He said the bank should continue to increase its market share in this area, while also increasing the average size of the funds it manages.
