Once upon a time
This week's story - The Valuable Object
I usually visit my grandma when I have free time, especially to hunt through the large attic grandma has at the very top of the house. I usually dig, like an archaeologist, in the old trunks, covered in dust. And surprisingly, recently I found a shiny pearl with a beaded necklace.
I scanned it carefully, like a detective would do, and asked grandma about it that very minute. She told me the story and I noticed that her eyes were filling with tears, though she tried not to show her sadness, and I wondered why.
The owner of this valuable object was a former queen called Madame Alexandra. She owned some precious diamonds which her father found during a search for gold in the mines in Australia. In America she hid her identity and got married. Unfortunately her husband, Jimmy, died of some horrible disease. After this, her only daughter, Martha, rushed out of the States and emigrated to Canada.
Madame Alexandra seemed to know what was going to happen. So she secretly put a small pearl with a beaded necklace for her and another one for her small nephew Jonathan. This showed that the necklace connected Madame Alexandra and Jonathan, although they were far away from each other.
Madame Alexandra died exactly 29 years ago, with the pearl and the necklace buried with her. Just two years after her death Jonathan died in combat, when he was helping his friend. This left my grandmother a widow at a very young age, when she was still taking care of her seven children. But, despite my grandfather's death my grandma has an unforgettable reminder of her husband - the pearl and the necklace.
Madame Alexandra's intention was to find Jonathan but this could not happen as the communication between Martha and Jonathan was broken.
I was very pleased and very proud to have my grandfather part of a former royal family and the precious necklace as a souvenir to remember him.
I see that Madame Alexandra's intentions were good and serious.
