While on holiday in Malta last week at our apartment in Xemxija, my wife and I went to see the Bryan Adams concert at Luxol stadium; what a fantastic experience! Having seen him in Cardiff (Wales) a few years ago we thought we knew what to expect but were completely unprepared for the evening.
It started with local band Winter Moods, who I confess I had not heard before, and they were very good indeed. There followed a lengthy delay and, just as the audience were starting to get restless, Bryan Adams and his band appeared to a deafening ovation. They played a really great set lasting almost two and a half hours, the high spots for me being a brilliant version of "The only thing that looks good on me is you", the perennially excellent "Run to you" and the appearance on stage of "Claire from Zebbug" to duet on "When you're gone". I'm sure that was an experience she will remember all her life.
Probably though, the best part of the whole evening's experience was the sight of so many, mostly young, Maltese really enjoying themselves.
It made for a wonderful, friendly, non-threatening and inclusive evening for a middle aged Englishman (albeit, one born in Mtarfa and who likes to think of himself as at least an honourary Maltese) and his wife.
Congratulations to Winter Moods, Bryan Adams and his band, the event organisers and sponsors, but most of all to the marvellous Maltese audience.
