'Wied Garnaw should be fully protected'

Wied Garnaw, situated between Sta Lucija and Ghaxaq, and other open spaces should be fully protected by Mepa, according to the Graffitti pressure group.

The Planning Appeals Board will tomorrow hear the appeal by an applicant to build an industrial waste sorting plant in Wied Garnaw.

Graffitti has urged Mepa and the Development Control Commission to, once again, reject the application. "Sanctioning the development of an inorganic waste separation plant would violate the Structure Plan and illustrate Mepa's inability to regulate development in Outside Development Zones.

"It is unacceptable that developers keep appealing and forcing Mepa into reconsidering developments of green areas which have been classified as Outside Development Zones," Graffitti said.
