Following the tragedy at the St Helen's Fireworks Factory last week, when five men lost their lives and another suffered burns, the Carmelite Community and the Ghaqda Festi Esterni have decided to cancel the external festivities leading to the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel which were due to be held in Valletta between July 12 and 15.

The religious ceremonies within the church will, however, still take place. On July 15, at 6 p.m. there will be a translation of the relic followed by Mass for the repose of the soul of Carmel Farrugia, who was one of the victims and a big devotee of this feast.

On July 16, there will be a pilgrimage from the basilica in Valletta with the statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
