The Sliema local council said it was not involved in the widening of the pavement outside The Palace Hotel in High Street, resulting in the loss of car park spaces for residents.

In a statement the council, which said it had not been consulted, said the pavement should have remained as it was, allowing access to pedestrians.

The council is awaiting a reply from the relevant authorities to check if a permit was issued for the pavement to AX Holdings, the hotel owners and builders.

The council said it will take the necessary measures to safeguard the interests of the residents.
