The Valletta electric cab service, launched on June 14, started operating, as planned, last Monday.

A spokesman for CT Park Ltd, the promoters of the project, confirmed that "response from the public was much more than expected and the ten cabs crisscrossing the streets of Valletta, found it very difficult to cope with demand from the public.

"For the first week, the service was free of charge because we wanted everyone to sample the comfort and convenience of this new service in Valletta."

From tomorrow, as an introductory offer, a fee of 45c for any length of journey from any point to any destination in Valletta will be charged.

The ten electric cabs operate non-stop, seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Those wishing to use the service after 7 p.m. may call 2133-3321 and the CT Cab will pick clients from any spot.

Kenneth De Martino, chairman of CT Park, operators of the Valletta CT Cab Service, said the company is already looking into increasing the number of cabs in view of the popular demand for the new service.
