Air rally starts today

This year's edition of the International Air Rally will be held between today and Wednesday.

The theme for the rally is 38 Years Of European Aviation Ties.

Eighteen light aircraft from seven European countries bringing with them some 60 participants will be taking part. The main entries this year hail from the UK, Denmark, Germany, France and Switzerland. Malta International Airports have once again put their facilities at the disposal of the Air Rally of Malta committee.

The first aircraft start arriving today at 11.50 a.m. up to 4.30 p.m. More aircraft will be arriving tomorrow up to 1 p.m. Pilots will be tested for their precision flying and navigation skills through a flight planning competition. Marks will also be given for the upkeep and safety of the aircraft.

Air Rally chairman George Kissaun, committee members, hostesses and MIA staff will welcome pilots and their friends with a glass of champagne.

The overall winner of the rally will be presented with the Falcon Trophy by the Tourism Minister during a ceremony at the Corinthia Palace Hotel, Attard on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
