Italy striker Fabio Quagliarella is happy to stay at new club Udinese despite his agent saying Manchester United are among a number of clubs interested in him.

The 23-year-old, who scored twice on his first start for Italy earlier this month, played for Sampdoria last season but was joint-owned by Udinese, who have won the race to sign him properly.

"I am staying here," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. "This team is competitive and young and we will do great things."

Beckham at LA Galaxy on July 13

The Los Angeles Galaxy will officially introduce new signing David Beckham on July 13.

But the former England captain, who joins from Real Madrid, faces a tough time reversing the Galaxy's fortunes. The club are second from bottom in the six-team Major League Soccer Western Conference.

Beckham will be presented at the club's home stadium, the Home Depot Center, in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson. The midfielder's debut game has yet to be decided, although it could be in a friendly against Chelsea on July 21.

Abidal joins Barca

France full-back Eric Abidal completed his move from Lyon to Barcelona yesterday and said the arrival of three French-speaking players at the club would help ease his adaptation to the Primera Liga.

Abidal, who has been capped 24 times for his country, signed a four-year contract in a deal worth over 15 million euros.

He is Barca's third recruit of the week following the arrival of Thierry Henry from Arsenal and Yaya Toure from Monaco.

French internationals Lilian Thuram and Ludovic Giuly are already at the club.

"I believe I have the right characteristics to succeed here and it will be easier to adapt, with so many French speakers here," Abidal, 27, said.

Marseille set to sign Cisse

Marseille are likely to complete the permanent transfer of Djibril Cisse from Liverpool despite a late approach from West Ham.

Bolton and Portsmouth were also interested in signing the 25-year-old, who cost Liverpool £14m in July 2004. But Cisse, who spent last season on loan at Marseille, is keen to stay at the French club.

"Marseille is definitely the choice for Djibril," Cisse's agent Ranko Stojic said. "I think the deal will happen this weekend.

"I have been very busy this week. I am sorry for the people I have not had the chance to call back, Eggert Magnusson of West Ham for example."

Miccoli may join Palermo

Fabrizio Miccoli could be on his way to joining Palermo in a £3.5m deal according to reports in the Italian press. The 27-year-old was expected to be recalled to Juventus following his two-year loan spell at Benfica.

Miccoli was initially mentioned as part of an exchange deal for Andrea Barzagli, but the latest rumours suggest that £3.5 million will be enough to see Miccoli moving to Palermo.

Miccoli was also a reported target for Napoli, but talks between Palermo sporting director Rino Foschi and the player's agent seem to confirm that Sicily will be the striker's next destination.

Everton likely to land Jagielka

Everton are expected to sign Phil Jagielka for £4m from Sheffield United if the Blades' relegation from the Premier League is confirmed.

Wigan and Bolton also want the 24-year-old, who has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave Bramall Lane if Sheffield United go down.

Bryan Robson, the new Sheffield United manager, said: "Keeping Phil looks like it's going to be a problem. He's told me he would rather stay in the Premiership."

Jagielka, who was released by Everton as a youngster, impressed as a substitute for England 'B' against Albania.

Galliani mulling Cassano option

Milan are interested in Real Madrid's forgotten striker Antonio Cassano, Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani told Italian media.

The forward has failed to settle in Spain following his move from Roma in January 2006 and looks certain to return to Serie A this summer.

Reports this week suggested Napoli and Inter were interested in the 24 year-old, but now Galliani has confirmed the European champions had also joined the hunt.

"I have always liked Cassano," Galliani said. "We had already discussed his move in January... now we could consider the option once again."

Real enter Chivu chase

Real Madrid are ready to offer £11m for Roma's Cristian Chivu.

The Romanian has been heavily linked with a move to Inter as well as Barcelona, who have offered £10m for the former Ajax youngster.

The Spanish press, however, reported that Real were interested in Chivu and that the player had already spoken to ex-coach Fabio Capello, who had requested the defender's arrival at Roma in 2003.

Inter had offered £6m plus Victor Obinna's loan and the £4m they are owned for the ownership of David Pizarro... Roma were not impressed.

Reo-Coker transfer stalls

There were few positive signs yesterday that Aston Villa and West Ham will agree on a transfer fee for midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker.

Villa manager Martin O'Neill is keen to tie up the deal before his players report back for pre-season training next Wednesday.

Villa are prepared to offer around £7 million but West Ham want a minimum of £8-9 million for the England U-21 international.

Reo-Coker is also due to begin a holiday this weekend after his exertions for his country in the Euro Championship finals in Holland.
