An employee in the private secretariat of the Ministry of Health, the Elderly and Community Care is among the persons being investigated in connection with the alleged payment of money for the issuing of invalidity pensions.

Following these allegations, the individual's employment was terminated immediately, the ministry said yesterday.

It said it had been informed that a number of persons are expected to be arraigned over the matter.

Although the alleged abuse did not fall directly under its responsibility, the ministry said it would strongly condemn such behaviour.

The ministry added that it was following the government's policy to take immediate action when there is suspicion of abuse.
