Dominican Bishop Gorg Frendo has been awarded Gieh Hal-Qormi by the Qormi local council.

Mgr Frendo, who hails from Qormi, has been working in the Dominican mission in Albania since 1997. He is Auxiliary Bishop at the Durres-Tirana diocese and Titular Bishop of Butrinti in Albania.

The council also presented the award Gharfien il-Hila, rewarding individuals for their contribution towards society, to former Qormi councillors George Galea, who was one of the first councillors following the establishment of the local councils, and to Thomas Harmsworth and Keith Psaila, who served in the council for three years.

A special honour was awarded to Carmelo Cilia for his services to the two Qormi parishes.
