At a ceremony at the Rotunda Church in Xewkija earlier this month led by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech, the new dome at the front of the Rotunda Church was blessed and a wooden cross was placed on top.

The Precursor Band accompanied the procession as the cross was carried shoulder high by a group of young men to the Xewkija Rotunda.

Bishop Grech led a solemn concelebration with the participation of the Vox Clamantis choir and the orchestra, directed by Mro Carmel Grech.

Bishop Grech later blessed the new wooden cross, made by John Zammit. He also blessed the new dome, and the cross was then lifted up to be placed on the dome while the band played marches on the village square in front of the Rotunda. A fireworks display followed. Afterwards Xewkija mayor Monica Vella, inaugurated the new lighting system for the dome, in the presence of Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Mercieca.
