Investments Minister Austin Gatt has asked the Permanent Commission Against Corruption to investigate allegations against the head of his private secretariat, Claudio Grech. The allegations were made by Labour MP Leo Brincat.
Mr Brincat had said in a statement last week that the head of the ministry's private secretariat was involved in the Core Evaluation Team that handled tenders worth millions of liri. This, he said, was unacceptable.
Dr Gatt said Mr Brincat had made vague and unsubstantiated allegations in order to taint Mr Grech. This was a tactic used repeatedly by the opposition, the minister said.
Dr Gatt hoped that the commission would conclude the investigation without delay.
