A teenager was given a suspended jail term when he admitted to defiling the four-year-old daughter of a woman who was having an affair with his father.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani heard how the boy was 14 years old when he defiled the girl in 2003 and that he had been put in a "very difficult situation".

His father was having an affair with a woman who had a daughter and the boy was asked to look after the child. He did what he did to get back at the girl's mother.

The magistrate gave the boy, who today is 17, a two-year jail term suspended for three years and also put him under a supervision order and a treatment order for three years.

Police Inspectors Louise Calleja and Dennis Theuma prosecuted.

Lawyer Stefano Filletti represented the boy while lawyers José Herrera and Veronique Dalli appeared in parte civile.
