From Rebecca Borg, seven, of Manikata
Dear Junior News, one very special day I saved a rare seagull at Golden Bay. How it all happened was like this: My mummy dropped me with my dad on the beach. His friend offered to take me, with my brother, for a ride on the jet bike. My brother and I both like rides on the jet bike so we said yes.

So we set off and after a while we saw a bird in the distance. At first I thought it wasn't real but my daddy's friend said it was. It was moving but we couldn't see its other wing. It was broken. Someone had shot it. I even saw a little blood. I wanted to save the poor thing so we drove back. I told my dad about this and he went with his friend to get it. My dad was holding it firmly but gently and his friend was driving. They got back to shore. Then I held it and put it in a safe place. My daddy told me that seagulls have feathers that keep them dry so they never get wet.

Then my daddy phoned BirdLife about five times. Someone came at last but whilst they were talking my dad gave me a biscuit and I gave it to the seagull. I could tell he loved it. So then BirdLife took him to their bird hospital and there they will fix his wing and let him free.

Now, what I am going to say is that you should never shoot birds or animals or sea creatures. How would you like it if they shot you? So please, never shoot living things. Thank you!

What an amazing rescue, Rebecca. How lucky for the seagull that your family and friend were there to help it. Thank you for sending this letter. With its happy ending and your important message. And you've won a Lm 5 voucher and VIP Toyland's discount card for sending this week's star letter. Well done!

From Katrina Frey, seven, of Siggiewi
Dear Junior News, My name is Katrina Frey. I am seven years old and I live in Siggiewi. I go to St Dorothy's School, Sliema, and I have lots of friends. I like singing and I have two pets, Tommy a budgie and Max a dog. I like whistling to Tommy and I take Max out for a walk every day, after I have done my homework. I like to run with Max and he always runs faster than me. I am sending two pictures.

Thank you for your pictures, Katrina. We are printing just one here because pictures drawn on lined paper do not appear well, as in the case of your other one. Your pets sound very sweet.

We already know a bit about Max, because he has been in our My Pet column, but we didn't know he was such a fast runner.

• The sender of the star letter each week will receive a Lm5 voucher to exchange and a VIP 10 per cent discount card for all toys at Toyland for a whole year!

• Send your letters, together with your full name, age and address to Junior News.
