Life's no beach for hapless dog

Bathers enjoying a day at Ghadira witnessed an unusual event yesterday morning when police intervened to have a dog removed from the popular sandy beach.

Sources close to the Tourism Ministry, which is responsible for the cleaning of the beach, said the dog's owners were asked to take the dog away but they refused, saying that the medium-sized dog had just undergone surgery and needed to swim.

It was then that the police were called in. They were enforcing a law enacted quite a few years ago that says no animals are allowed on the beaches at Ghadira and St George's Bay.
