A host of classic cars will descend on Malta for the Grand Prix de Malte on October 27 and 28.

The cars will arrive from Genoa for a week's stay that will include a tourism rally, an endurance rally, a show contest, a hill climb, town circuit and the Grand Prix.

Sports cars, two-seater racers, and prestigious touring cars built between 1910 and 1975 are eligible to participate in five categories. Single-seater racing cars made between 1930 and 1965 may participate in two categories.

The event is being organised by the Giovannoni Thierry Organisation (GTO) of France, in collaboration with the Malta Transport Authority, the Malta Tourism Authority, the Old Motors Club and the Federazzjoni Maltija Vetturi Antiki.

GTO, founded by Thierry Giovannoni, specialises in the organisation and management of prestigious motoring events. In over 15 years, the limited liability company has organised 17 vintage historic grand prix in France and overseas, four fairs and a museum, eight tourist rallies and nine sporting rallies.

The latest GTO projects are the vintage grand prix in Tangiers and the Uruguay Aventura. The company has over 1,000 vintage, sports, racing and prestige cars dating between 1907 and 1980 on file.

GTO have over 20 qualified course technicians or course clerks, two race directors, two parc fermé technicians, an electronic timing system, a press agent and a communications company. The organisation is responsible for overall event management from customs and police formalities, vehicle set-up in parc fermé or for exhibitions, hotel and catering services management, technical commentaries, prize presentations and landing formalities.
