Signal 8 Security Services Ltd, sole representatives of the International Bodyguards Association (IBA), is holding two courses - Masterclass (bodyguarding skills) and Protective Driving - between Monday, July 2 and Friday, July 6.
Masterclass 2007 will include the history and role of the bodyguard; function and structure of the bodyguard team; protective escort (formations and counter-ambush drills); protective driving (defensive, evasive and offensive modes); communications and search of electronic surveillance devices; search and recognition of improvised explosive devices; close quarter battle (defence and restraint tactics); and bodyguard para medicine.
Protective Driving is an on-the-road course which will cover convoy driving in defensive mode. It will also include actions on ambush with forward and reverse, and offensive driving (participants ram the opposition out of the way). A current driving licence is needed. Following this course, participants are eligible to become IBA members.
The full fee is Lm225. There is a discounted fee of Lm25 for both courses, given to IBA members and those who have already attended courses offered by Signal 8 Security. There is also a Lm15 discount for military and police personnel.
The fee for the Masterclass course is Lm170 and Lm100 for the Protective Driving one.
Both courses will be covered over five days (eight hours a day, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The Masterclass course will cover six bodyguard skills in depth and throughout both courses participants will be taught how to think like a bodyguard and act like one too.
Participants will need a suit for some exercises and casual clothing for others. If they are taking any medication or have a medical condition, they need to inform the company beforehand.
The IBA is an international non-governmental organisation established in Paris in December 1957. The association's primary objective is to train officers of government and corporate security in world class bodyguard techniques for protection. The training courses can only be attended by those men or women who are psychologically and physically healthy, and who are at least 18 years old.
