Two men were arrested separately by mobile squad police officers on Thursday on suspicion of drug trafficking.

The police said the first case involved an individual who was observed acting suspiciously at Sa' Maison, in Pietà.

The man was stopped and searched and 10 sachets of heroin were found in his possession, the police said.

Later on Thursday, mobile squad police became suspicious of the movements of an individual who was driving a car in Qormi.

When they tried to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off at high speed in the direction of Luqa and the police gave chase.

The suspect was eventually stopped at Luqa, but not before his pursuers had seen him throw a sachet out of the window. When it was picked up it was found to contain five grammes of heroin, the police said.

The 25-year-old suspect, from Qormi, was also arrested and held for questioning.

Police expect to charge the two men in court soon.
