On the evening of May 19, the MCC was full of hustle and bustle as Adrian Mizzi and his crew were carrying out final preparations for the ninth edition of the Malta Fashion Awards. A year of preparatory work was well worth the final result as the audience both present on the night and watching the televised show gave positive feedback, says Mr Mizzi of Unique Promotions.

The show opened with a dance followed by Klinsmann Coleiro who sang his popular number, She Gives Me Wings. Pauline Agius then presented herself as our hostess and wasted no time in introducing the first award. The Male Model award went to David Camenzuli who rushed out hurriedly as he was preparing to take part in the first fashion show of the evening by Intimate. This was indeed an interesting collection of underwear and swimwear which was also tastefully presented by the models. Prior to this Shasha was awarded the Best Make-Up Artist award, dedicating this win to Olivia Lewis whom she had just accompanied in Helsinki.

For the second year running, Stephanie Hodgkins won the Female Model award and she looked stunning in her floral outfit. An audacious and vibrant body art show by Anthony Desira followed. The Fashion Photographer award was won by Brian Grech and the Female Photo Model award went to a fresh-looking Christine Pillow elegantly adorned in a black evening dress. Collezione casual wear presented their latest collection which was full of every day ideas for the hot summer season. An array of street wear in various colours like whites, greens and pinks were presented.

The entertainment continued with Scar and Ira Losco and hair shows by nominees Double M and Carlo Marsala and guest hairstylists Cut Coiffeur. The award for Best Hairstylist was won by Double M - a collaboration between Mark Stafrace of Club Cut and Mario Borg of Papilla. Their hair show featured singer Ritianne. The models were dressed in white with upstyles decorated by feather boas. The angelic theme was enhanced by the male models and their winged outfits.

The hair show by Carlo Marsala was a very interesting one which required a lot of technique from the models. They were dressed as china dolls and moved in isolated paces to the beat of the music as if they were literally being wound by a key.

Cut Coiffeur gave an extravagant show with angels and chariots and lots of colour and music. The make-up for these hair shows were done by the nominees themselves - Elaine Stafrace for Double M, Lorna Mugliett for Carlo Marsala and Nicola Powell for Cut Coiffeur.

The four fashion designers who were responsible for Pauline Agius's clothing were all given the well-earned opportunity to present their collection in a fashion show on the night. Dreams by George Muscat was the first fashion show with a total of six models and a very striking long orange print dress and a fuchsia pink suit stealing everyone's attention. Natash by Natasha Coin was a more conservative collection with gold and dark red as the main colour theme. Mad Matt's collection featured funky clothing and a more non-conventional look. Ernest Camilleri's collection was one of glamourous evening wear which are only suitable for the daring. Make-up for this last fashion show was done by Shasha.
