Hoax e-mails are sometimes sent to customers by fraudulent persons purporting to be from banks, HSBC said yesterday.

The bank's customers were reminded to never give out personal internet or telephone banking user identification or passwords.

HSBC said it was not the bank's policy or practice to contact customers unsolicited and ask them for personal passwords.

Customers are to report any such cases to infomalta@hsbc.com. Alternatively, customers can phone on 2380 2380.
