A man has been jailed for a year for kidnapping a three-year-old girl who he claimed was his daughter three years ago.

The man was also found guilty of injuring the girl's mother and 60-year-old grandmother when he made his way into their house to take the girl in February 2004.

During the court proceedings it had not been officially proved that the man was in fact the father.

Names are not being published to protect the identity of the child.

Police Inspectors Kevin Farrugia and Louise Calleja prosecuted.
