The government will be forking out about €700,000 for a big entertainment event this summer and which is expected to be broadcast on MTV music channel, The Times has learnt.

Leisure industry sources said the event will be held some time next month. The sources said it will be up to the Malta Tourism Authority to decide when the event will be broadcast by MTV.

When contacted, Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech would neither confirm nor deny that the government was paying that sort of money to MTV. He would only say that a press conference would be held tomorrow when details will be given out.

It is understood that the party in question is not connected to the MTV Summerdance, which will be held at Gozo's La Grotta on July 9 and also filmed for MTV's new show - Switched On.
