Preparations are in full swing at the St Paul Fencing Club (SPFC) for the Malta Open at the Mtarfa Gym on Saturday and Sunday.
The Open takes on added significance this year being the 10th edition in the series.
The competition represents a decade of commitment to the sport at both local and international level.
A strong contingent of foreigners have again opted to include the Malta Open in their calendar of events.
They will be joining local fencers in what promises to be a weekend packed with top-quality 'duels'.
The competition will comprise individual bouts at Foil and Epee as well as a fun-orientated Epee event for mixed teams from all participating clubs.
An international referee will preside bouts, all under the rules of the Federation Internationale D'Escrime - the world's governing body of the sport.
Meanwhile, the SPFC said the Cadets club will continue meeting on a weekly basis during June and July and, at present, the club is receiving applications from interested beginners.
